OXBOW GALLERY RECEIVES GRANT FOR INNOVATIVE GROUP SHOW

January 1, 2019

The Oxbow Gallery in Northampton announces a group show in August 2019 of works by the collective The Greenfield Six + 1.

Gallery Co-Presidents E.B. Lehman, Will Sillin and K C Scott announced the show, which is funded by a grant from the Northampton Arts Council and Mass Cultural Council.  Seeking the grant in order to extend its community programming, the gallery’s outreach brings an interesting exhibit of innovative, interdisciplinary art works to Northampton audiences.

The Greenfield Six + 1 are artists who studied at Greenfield Community College under Dr. Amber Scoon, where in 2016 they developed a group philosophy alongside expertise in their mediums.  Deep interpersonal communication nurtures their art making; it is a breakaway from the idea of the visual artist who creates in isolation.

Members of The Greenfield Six+ 1 are Hannah Chase, Johanna Googendyk, Peter Fath, Lu Vincent, Rachael Waring, Hannah Hurricane Sanchez and Amber Scoon.  While their works are personal, the group demonstrates a philosophic approach to “community” within the arts.

The exhibit will run from August 8 – September 1, 2019, with an opening reception on Friday, August 9 from 5-8pm.In addition to the opening, G6+1 will also offer an Artist Talk as Collaborative Performance on Friday, August 16 from 5-7pm at the gallery, and Open Drawing in the gallery on Friday, August 23 from 5-7pm.

All events are free and open to the public.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Northampton Arts Council.
